Since the end of 2012, you have been required to provide your chimney sweep with proof of the age of your fireplace, as the aim is to remove old „fine dust spewers“ from the combustion cycle.

Section 26 of the First Ordinance on the Implementation of the Federal Immission Control Act (Ordinance on Small and Medium-Sized Firing Installations – 1st BImSchV) states the limit values:

(1) Single-room firing installations for solid fuels that were erected and put into operation before March 22, 2010 may only continue to be operated if the following limit values are not exceeded:

1. dust: 0.15 grams per cubic meter,

2. carbon monoxide: 4 grams per cubic meter.
If such a certificate is missing, the value must be determined by a chimney sweep measurement. Depending on the age of the fireplace or stove, transitional periods apply: if the type test was carried out before the end of 1984, the year 2017 applies, for series up to and including 1994 the year 2020 and for appliances that were tested between January 1995 and the entry into force of the regulation in March 2010, the year 2024 is the latest date for replacement or retrofitting with an approved dust filter – if the emission limits are not met by then.

With a storage heating stove from Ofenkundig, you are on the safe side here, as the flue gases are routed through a meter-long, shamotized draught system that is installed in the stove.
The combustion temperature in the combustion chamber is around 800 degrees and rises to 1000 degrees within the draught system. Wood is gasified in this combustion system and is thus given extra heat, which is absorbed in the fireclay system and released again as radiant heat over almost 24 hours. This means that the wood burns absolutely cleanly and produces very good exhaust gas values. A storage heating stove built by us therefore definitely meets the requirements of the Federal Immission Control Ordinance (1st BImSchV). Also those of the second stage from 31.12.2014, with even stricter limit values.
